I know I need a coat, not a jacket, but Christmas presents aren't about needs are they? They're about wants and I want this jacket.

It's so cool and it's almost an exact replica of my favorite jacket when I was 17. It's worn to death and it doesn't fit anymore (I was skinny back then), but I'll never part ways with it.

So, did you like it? Do you also have a piece that you don't wear anymore but that you can't seem to get rid of?

Sei que preciso de um casacão e não de um blusão, mas os presentes de Natal nada têm a ver com necessidades. Têm a ver com desejos e eu desejo este casaco.

É tão giro e quase uma réplica do meu casaco preferido de quando tinha 17 anos. Foi usado até à exaustão e já não me serve (é, eu era magrinha naquela altura), mas nunca me vou conseguir desfazer dele.

Gostaram deste casaco? E também têm alguma peça que já não usem, mas que não conseguem deitar fora? Contem-me tudo!

A Fat And Unemployed Girl's Inglorious Journey To Buy a Coat

Since there's been some misunderstanding regarding this post, I'd like to make clear that it's not me in any of these pictures. Read the post and you'll understand.:)
Devido a algumas confusões, gostava de esclarecer que eu não sou nenhuma destas meninas. Leiam o post, please!. :)

It's been freezing cold and I realized my "Portuguese weather" coats and jackets aren't cutting it anymore so I went out on the hunt to find the perfect jacket, warm and within my budget of €80.

As a plus-size aka fat girl I don't have a lot of options, cause only a few stores carry my size. So I left home heading to Dorothy Perkins, Marks&Spencer and Evans, always having in mind inspirational girls like one of my favorite bloggers Tanisha from Girl With Curves. (Isn't she gorgeous and amazingly stylish? Perfect, really!)

Tem estado um frio que nãos e aguenta e apercebi-me de que os meus casacos de clima português já não dão conta do recado, por isso saí em busca do casaco perfeito, quente, fechado até a cima e dentro do orçamento(€80).

Como rapariga gorda que sou não tinha grandes opções, porque há poucas lojas com o meu tamanho. Por isso fui em direcção à Dorothy Perkins, Marks&Spencer e Evans, tendo sempre como inspiração meninas como uma das minhas bloggers preferidas, a Tanisha do Girl With Curves. (Ela não é mesmo linda e cheia de estilo? Perfeita!)

Well, what a disappointment, Dorothy Perkins decided it was no longer winter, just holiday season. It was full of sequins and had no coats (except for fur coats that would make me look like a pregnant bear). Marks&Spencer had only really expensive or really ugly coats, except for a military style green coat that actually met my budget. but it wasn't warm enough and it was too open in the neckline.

Bem que desilusão. A Dorothy Perkins decidiu que não é Inverno, apenas época natalícia e só tinha lantejoulas. Agora casacos nada, tirando um ou dois de pêlo que me iam fazer parecer uma ursinha grávida.

A Marks&Spencer só tinha coisas caras ou horríveis, tirando um casaco verde de estilo militar que até estava dentro do orçamento, mas que era muito aberto à frente e não era quente o suficiente.

Two down, only one to go. Evans. I wasn't too hopeful cause I hadn't seen anything interesting online, but I still went. And boy did I fall hard for this coat. It was big and warm and beautiful. But way over my budget (€120). Then I remembered they were having a sale online, so I ran home to order it, only to see it was out of stock.

Duas já estavam, só faltava uma, a Evans. Não estava com muitas esperanças, porque não tinha visto nada de jeito no site, mas lá fui. E bolas como me apaixonei por este casaco. Era grande e quente e lindo! Mas muito acima do orçamento (€120). Foi aí que me lembrei que eles estavam a ter promoções online e fui a correr para casa para encomendar. Qual não foi o choque quando vi que estava fora de stock.

 Then I just cried and cried. Not having a job to buy yourself a basic coat is hitting rock bottom, isn't it?  I have a College degree, I speak a bunch of languages, have so many talents and then I'm not even good enough to be folding t-shirts at H&M. It's sad!

Fiquei para morrer e chorei, chorei. Não ter um mísero trabalho que dê para comprar um casaco é mesmo bater no fundo não é? A pessoa tem curso superior, fala uma carrada de línguas, tem tantos talentos e depois nem para dobrar t-shirts na H&M  serve. É triste!

Why Showing You My Outfits Would Be a Crime

The fashion blog universe is amazing. Beautiful, glamorous, inspiring. Whenever I open Google Reader I get bombarded by images of gorgeous and stylish girls that look like they belong in Vogue. But every once in a while comes an outfit that is just better than all the others. That just makes you go "Wow! Can I be that fabulous girl just for today?". And this week I decided not to keep it all to myself, but to share it with all of you, so you can all be inspired/amazed/jealous/depressed. You choose!

O universo dos blogs de moda é fantástico. Bonito, glamoroso, inpirado. Quando abro o Google reader sou bombardeada com imagens de miúdas giras e cheias de estilo com ar de quem devia estar na Vogue e não só num blog. Mas de vez em quando, há aqueles looks que atiram os outros a um canto. Aquele look que te faz pensar "Uau! Posso ser esta miúda fabulosa? Nem que seja só por um dia.".  Hoje achei que não devia guardar estas coisas maravilhosas só para mim e decidi partilhar estes looks convosco, para podermos ficar todos inspirados/maravilhados/invejosos/deprimidos. Vocês escolhem!

 First we have Allie from Inside Allie's World. A gorgeous girl who is not only a blogger but obviously a model and a plus-size warrior, that like me, only slightly better, fights for positive body image and against fat discrimination . I can't really tell you how much I love this girl. And this outfit. So classy! So chic! The leather jacket is just gorgeous. Don't you all want one now?

Primeiro, temos a Allie do Inside Allie's World. Um mulher linda que para além de blogger é, obviamente, modelo e guerreira plus-size, que como eu, só que melhor, luta por uma imagem corporal positiva e contra a descriminação contra os gordos. Nem vos consigo explicar o quanto gosto dela. Dela e do conjunto. Tão chic! E o casaco de pele é a coisa mais linda. Não está tudo com vontade de ter um assim?

 Miss Peony Lim needs no introduction. She's a international blogging star that always surprises and never disappoints. 

This is definitely my favorite outfit of hers. I just love lavender, grey and pom-pons of course.

A Peony Lim dispensa apresentações. É uma estrela internacional da blogosfera, que nunca desilude e está sempre a surpreender.

Este é, sem dúvida, um dos looks favoritos dela. Adoro lavanda e cinzento e pon-pons, claro.

And lastly, Thássia, one of Brazil's blogging queens. Often criticized for photoshopping her pictures and wearing expensive clothes given to her by national and international brands. Honestly, I couldn't care less. She's a source of inspiration and isn't doing anything that most bloggers aren't doing as well.

Here she's going into deep waters with a sea inspired dress full of salt water creatures, such as octopus, crabs and starfish. And if you know me you know I can't resist a Little Mermaid outfit.

E por fim, a Thássia, uma das rainhas da blogosfera brasileira, que é, muitas vezes, criticada por abusar do photoshop e pelo facto da maioria da sua roupa ser oferecida. Sinceramente, "tou nem aí". Ela é uma fonte de inspiração e não faz nada que as outras bloggers todas não façam.

Aqui ela mergulhou em águas profundas com este vestido de inspiração marítima com várias criaturas aquáticas, como polvos, caranguejos e estrelas do mar.. E se bem me conhecem, eu não consigo resistir a nada remotamente reminiscente da Pequena Sereia.

A Natural Woman

Robyn Lawley is the bomb. She has a belly. And probably even a bit of cellulite. But she's still the bomb. And call me crazy, but if I had to choose between having her body and say... Candice Swanepoel's body, I'd choose Robyn's. Why? Cause I feel she's got a body you can live in, not just be looked at. 
Maybe I'm not right about this, cause I've never been incredibly hot (I was hot, not just incredibly hot), but I feel like if you're perceived as sexy and perfect, perfect being the key word here, you'd feel the need to always be like that. To always have that image. And that enslaves you. Sometimes it can stop you from living the life you want to live, in order to be perfect. On the other hand, if you're hot but no one expects you to be perfect, then you're free. Not that you can't free yourself from people's expectations, but takes a lot of a personality and not all of us can get there.
I know I talk a lot, but I really can't help myself. Thoughts on this matter?
ps: God, I won't say no to Candice's body. Just thought I'd make that clear.

A Robyn Lawley é um máximo. Ela tem barriga . E provavelmente até celulite, mas ela arrasa. E chamem-me maluca se quiserem, mas se eu tivesse de escolher entre ter o corpo dela e sei lá, o da Candice Swanepoel, por exemplo, eu escolhia o da Robyn. Porquê? Porque o corpo dela é um corpo para viver, não só para ser admirado.
Talvez eu esteja completamente errada, porque nunca fui incrivelmente sensual (fui sensual, mas nunca incrivelmente, ok?), mas se toda a gente nos acha sexy e perfeitos, perfeitos sendo a palavra-chave aqui, o mais provável é sentirmos a necessidade de ser assim. De ter sempre aquela imagem, o que às vezes nos pode deter na procura da vida que desejamos, sempre na busca de continuar a ser perfeitos. Se por outro lado, ninguém espera que sejamos perfeitos, então somos livres. Não que não seja possível sê-lo quando há grandes expectativas em relação a nós, mas isso requer muita força e personalidade, e nem todos nós as temos.
Eu seu que falo muito, mas não consigo evitar. Opiniões?
ps: Deus, só para esclarecer, eu não recusaria o corpo da Candice.

Vacation Countdown - 11 Days To Be Home

I believe this is a controversial shirt and at least half of you won't like it, but I kinda love it. It reminds of the 90's, when silk shirts with bold patterns were the epitome of chic.

It also helps that it comes in my size and able to accommodate my boobs and my arms, which is a miracle in the shirt world. I'd really love to have something like this!

So did you like it or is it too 90's granny for you?

Acho que esta peça vai ser controversa e pelo menos metade de vocês não vai gostar dela, mas eu adoro-a. Lembra-me os anos 90, quando o cúmulo do chic eram estas camisas de seda com padrões gigantes e ousados.

Também ajuda haver o meu tamanho e o facto de acomodar os meus braços e mamas, o que é um milagre no mundo das camisas. Adorava ter uma assim.

Vacation Countdown - 18 Days To Be Home

H&M +

As a plus-size girl, it is super hard to find jeans or trousers, which drives a lot of plus-size girls to wearing just skirts or dresses. Well, the thing is I don't wear skirts or dresses, so my clothing pool is even smaller. My salvation for many years has been H&M and more recently H&M+.

Today I was browsing through the site and found these forest green jeans. They seem to have the same shape as my favorite black jeans and they're in my favorite color, so it's a win win situation.

Excuse now while I run to the closest H&M.

Como rapariga plus size (ie, gorda mesmo) é super difícil encontrar calças, o que leva a muitas raparigas gordinhas a usar apenas saias e vestidos. Bom, o problema é que eu recuso-me a usar saias ou vestidos, por isso as minhas opções são mais limitadas. A minha salvação dos últimos anos tem sido a H&M e mais recentemente a H&M+. 

Hoje andava a passear-me pelo site e descobri estas calças em verde escuro. Parecem ser do mesmo modelo das minhas calças pretas preferidas e são na minha cor preferida, por isso parecem-me perfeitas.

Agora com licença que vou correr até à H&M mais próxima.

I kinda feel sorry for not having her in my Met's favorites list. The woman deserves it after all that effort!

Cameron Diaz foi ao Baile do Met com um vestido que pesava uma tonelada. Vá uma tonelada não. Eram "apenas" 10 kg de Stella McCartney. Pelo menos agora os ossinhos dela já sabe como é que é ter um bocadinho de peso a mais.

Até tenho pena de não a ter posto na minha lista de favoritos do Met. Depois daquele esforço todo, merecia.

Plus Size Me Goes To Zara

Hi everyone! I'm back! Sorry for being absent, but I've been in Portugal for over a month and I ended up spending the whole time with my family, specially my sister. 

The time (and money) was short but I still managed to enjoy some shopping with my favorite girls, my sis and my mom. Here is the one piece of clothing I got. An amazing white waistcoat from Zara. I fell in love with it the moment I laid eyes on it and as soon as that happened I felt the overwhelming fear of me not fitting inside it...Still, I looked for the bigger size (L...I mean really...) and slowly tried it on in the middle of the store praying that know one would see my ridiculous attempt of fitting into a Zara item. But for my astonishment, it fit. Not like it fits the models in the pictures but it looked good. Since I have broad shoulders and big boobs, the front part of the waistcoat kinda sits on the side, but I don't  think anyone notices that's not how it's meant to look. Needless to say I had to have it. Although it was a bit over budget, I couldn't resist the impeccable tailoring and the gorgeous transparent sections. It's one of those different pieces that it would be a sin not to have. What do you think? Do you love it as much as I do? And how do you feel about the fact that some brands only have a very limited size selection? For instance at Zara, some of the items are only made in S and M sizes... Mango also has pieces that only go from S to an L...I just amazes me that brands don't understand that they are missing on some serious business. It's understandable that some pieces are only manufactured in some sizes in order not to compromise design. But we're talking about t-shirts and blazers here...Another of fashion's greatest mysteries. Well, let me know your thoughts on this matter. And I promise to be back soon.

Oh, I also got some cool and very cheap nail polish and some make-up. I'll show them later.

Olá a todos! Estou de volta! Peço desculpa pela ausência prolongada, mas estive mais de um mês em Portugal e acabei por passar o tempo todo com a minha família, especialmente com a minha irmã. 

O tempo (e o orçamento) foi curto, mas ainda consegui fazer umas comprinhas com as minhas meninas preferidas, a minha maninha e a minha mãe. E esta é a única peça de roupa que comprei. Um colete lindo da Zara. Apaixonei-me por ele assim que lhe deitei os olhos em cima, e assim que isso aconteceu, fui inundada por um medo esmagador de não caber dentro dele... Ainda assim, procurei o tamanho maior (que era o L...a sério...) e ali no meio da loja, decidi experimentá-lo, rezando para que ninguém testemunhasse a minha tentativa ridícula de caber dentro de uma peça da Zara. Mas, para meu espanto, não é que serviu? Não me fica exactamente como nas modelos acima, mas fica bem. Como tenho ombros largos e peito grande, a parte da frente fica mais de lado, mas acho que ninguém nota que não era assim que era suposto ficar. Óbvio que tinha mesmo de o comprar! Apesar de estar um bocadinho fora do meu orçamento, não consegui resistir ao corte impecável e àquelas transparências lindas. É uma daquelas peças que seria pecado não comprar. 

O que acham? Gostam?

E o que é que pensam do facto de muitas marcas terem um número muito limitado de tamanhos? Por exemplo, a Zara tem peças que só estão disponíveis em tamanho S e M...A Mango também tem peças que só vão do S ao L... Espanta-me o facto das marcas não perceberem que estão a perder negócio. Percebo que algumas peças só sejam apresentadas em alguns tamanhos, de modo a não comprometer o design e a forma como a roupa é suposto ficar, mas estamos a falar de t-shirts e blazers banais... Mais um dos grandes mistérios da moda. Bem, contem-me o que acham de tudo isto.

My Facebook newsfeed is mostly inhabited by fashion magazines, blogs and websites (Sometimes I even forget there are people in there.). So it's obvious why I got so excited when I saw some hot, non-skinny legs show up in my screen. Those legs belong to Tara Lynn, a plus-size supermodel that's on the cover of Elle France for the second time. She first appeared in the magazine in its March 2010 issue. She has also covered Vogue Italia as seen here. Although the cover is not exceptional, it thought it was worth showing it, for the daring move of having a plus-size girl on the cover. A gorgeous plus-size model, I must add. A sign that the industry is changing? I surely hope so! 

As usual I invite you to weigh in on this subject.

O newsfeed do meu Facebook é maioritariamente habitado por revistas, blogs e sites de moda (às vezes até me esqueço que há pessoas no Facebook), por isso é óbvio que fiquei super contente quando vi umas pernocas sexys e não anoréticas no meu ecrã. Essas pernas pertencem a Tara Lynn, uma super modelo plus-size que é capa da Elle France pela segunda vez. Ela apareceu pela primeira vez na revista em Março de 2010. Também foi capa da Vogue Italia, como podem ver aqui. Apesar da capa não ser excepcional, achei que valia a pena mostrar pela atitude atrevida de ter uma modelo plus-size como capa. Uma modelo plus-size linda, tenho a acrescentar. Um sinal de que a indústria está a mudar? Espero bem que sim.

When Plus Model Magazine published this photo of a Lane Bryant campaign on Facebook I screaked with excitement! Why? Cause there was a body that resembled mine on a lingerie campaign! That's why! I'm a bit fuller, as in fatter, and have bigger boobs...Much bigger! Oh and stretchmarks, those b******! But that's my body! My arms, my waist, my hips, my thighs...And that's a hot body! I mean, women would kill for that hourglass shape... I won't sit here and say I didn't wish I was a bit slender, cause I do. But mostly I wanna be healthy and feel sexy and I don't feel the need to be super skinny to be that way. And since I'm in the subject of weight and body types, I have to say that I have nothing against slim women and I don't believe all women should have curves and big boobs to be "real women". I'm not one of those fat militants that say all women just eat and get some junk in their trunk. I truly believe that there is room for more than one type of beauty. But mostly I believe in the freedom of looking however you wanna look.

Thanks Plus Model Magazine and Lane Bryant for putting big beautiful women out there and thanks for making clothes for us meatier girls! It'd be great if others retailers did the same. But most of all thanks for reminding me, how hot I really am!

Quando a Plus Model Magazine publicou esta foto da campanha da Lane Bryant no Facebook, soltei um gritinho de excitação! Porquê? Porque havia um corpo parecido com o meu numa campanha de lingerie...Sou mais cheiinha e tenho mamas maiores...Bem maiores! E estrias, essas grandes c*****! Mas é o meu corpo! Os meus braços, a minha cintura, as minhas ancas, as minhas coxas...E é um corpo sexy! Quer dizer, há mulheres que matariam por uma forma de ampulheta destas. Não vou mentir e dizer que não gostava de ser mais magra, porque gostava. Mas mais que tudo quero ser saudável e sentir-me sexy e não sinto necessidade de ser super esquelética para conseguir isso. E já que estamos no tema do peso e de tipos de corpos difrentes, tenho de dizer que não tenho nada contra a magreza e não acredito que as mulheres têm de ter todas curvas e mamas para serem mulheres a sério. Não sou daquelas militantes da gordura que acha que todas as mulheres devem começar a enfardar e a acumular gordurinhas. Acredito mesmo que há espaço para todo o tipo de beleza. Mas acima de tudo, acredito na liberdade de se ser como se quer ser.

Obrigada à Plus Model Magazine e à Lane Bryant por mostrarem mulheres gordas e lindas e obrigada à Lane Bryant por fazer roupas para nós mocinhas com mais carne. Era bom que mais marcas fizessem o mesmo. Mas acima de tudo, obrigada por me lembrarem do quão sexy eu sou!

Adele is the bomb! She's got the voice, the looks, the personality! I absolutely love her! Her music is so full of soul it hurts! Oh, how I could have used some Adele in my teens and early early twenty's! I can totally picture myself listening to her and singing along while desperately crying in the darkness of my room! Drama, drama, drama! But I've moved on and so has she! I'm slightly less dramatic and she's on the cover of Vogue (she wins) ! When I found out about it I almost died with excitement! It's a beautiful cover wouldn't you say? Not the most fashion forward but beautiful and that's all I'm asking from Vogue these days. I love a full cover like this, powerful face, lot's of hair... And the mustard letters...so fall appropriate! And Adele herself...doesn't she look gorgeous?

A Adele á a maior! Tem a voz, a beleza, a personalidade! Adoro-a! A música dela é tão cheia de sentimento que até dói! Oh, a Adele tinha-me dado tanto jeitinho nos meus anos de adolescência e no início dos meus 20 anos! Já me estou a imaginar no escurinho do meu quarto a ouvi-la e a cantar enquanto chorava desesperadamente...Drama, drama, drama! Mas eu já evoluí e a Adele também! Eu estou um bocadinho menos dramática e a Adele está na capa da Vogue (acho que ela ganha) ! Quando descobri, quase morri de ansiedade! A capa está bem bonita, não está? Não é a mais à frente, mas está bonita e só isso que eu peço à Vogue, por enquanto. Adoro uma capa cheia como esta. Uma cara bonita, montes de cabelo! E as letras em amarelo mustarda...tão apropriado ao Outono! E a própria Adele...não está linda?

Tenho de comprar a Vogue hoje ou isto vai acabar mal! O próprio conteúdo parece interessante e stou mortinha por ler o artigo sobre o Azzedine Alaïa!

I just had to have the June issue of Vogue Italia, an issue dedicated to plus sized beauty featuring three curvy models on the cover (Tara Lynn, Candice Huffine and Robyn Lawly). The girls were shot in black and white by Steven Meisel and the result is a sultry editorial that just makes you wanna have that big greasy burger!

It really feels great to see girls that kinda look like you (only a million times better) on the most coveted cover in the world. Hope the rest of the fashion world is watching and taking notes!

Simplesmente não podia passar sem comprar a Vogue Itália de Junho! Com três modelos curvilíneas na capa (Tara Lynn, Candice Huffine and Robyn Lawly), a edição de Junho salienta que a beleza engloba mais que um só tamanho.

As raparigas foram fotografadas a preto e branco por Steven Meisel e o resultado é um editorial sensual que nos faz esquecer as dietas e comer aquele hamburger cheio de gordura!

É mesmo ver raparigas que até se parecem comigo (só que muito mais giras) na capa mais cobiçada do mundo. Espero que o resto do mundo da moda esteja a ver e a tirar notas!
