Modern Woman, Modern Warrior

Hi everyone!

Just wanted to let you know why I've been MIA. You see, I've been in Portugal for a while and I've had zero time to dedicate to myself or the blog, as I have been playing the part of a modern (and somewhat desperate) housewife, picking up my sister from school, helping with her homework, walking my dog and taking care of the home in general, while still managing to wax and do my nails so my boyfriend doesn't run away in horror. I can't even imagine what it's like to all of this when you actually have another job outside the home (Mom, you're my hero!).

I'm not promising I'll go back to my usual posting rate any time soon, but I'll try to post every couple of days. In the meantime you're welcome to follow me on Facebook, where I usually share a lot of pretty things.

Gostaria de justificar o facto de estar desaparecida em combate. É que sabem, tenho estado em Portugal e não tenho tido tempo nenhum nem para mim, nem para o blog, já que tenho andado em modo dona-de-casa (desesperada), a ir buscar a minha irmã à escola, ajudá-la com os TPC, passear a minha cadela e a tratar da casa em geral, enquanto ainda tento ter tempo para fazer a depilação e pintar as unhas para o namorado não fugir em estado de medo e horror. Nem consigo 

imaginar fazer isto tudo, enquanto se tem um trabalho fora de casa (Mãe, és a minha heroína!).

Não venho prometer que vou postar à minha velocidade e ritmo normais, mas vou tentar postar dia sim dia não. Entretanto, podem seguir-me no Facebook, onde costumo pôr umas coisas giras.

Summer Has Just Begun

As some of you may know I am in my hometown of Lisbon, Portugal, enjoying some time in the sun. It's been great to see everyone I love and see all the things that are familiar to me. I feel like I don't wanna go back, but eventually, I must.

Hi everyone! I'm sorry I haven't blogged in a few days but blogging has become an impossible task these days. Today I'm coming back with my countdown, which will be all about my favorite fashion item, magazines.
 I'm desperate to get these two magazines, Vogue Brasil with Bianca Balti and American Glamour with Victoria Beckham. This last one is a fashion magazine lover's must have. Not only is Victoria on the cover wearing a tiara while taking a bubble bath , but she's also the guest editor of the September issue, the biggest and most important of the year. Really can't wait to get it! It's a good thing American magazines are so popular and inexpensive here in Dublin.

Olá! Desculpem não ter postado nada nos últimos dias, mas escrever no blog foi uma tarefa impossível de realizar nestes últimos dias. Mas hoje estou de volta com a minha contagem descrescente, que hoje é dedicada ao meu item de moda preferido, as revistas.
Estou obcecada por estas duas, a Vogue Brasil com a Bianca Balti e a Glamour americana com a Victoria Beckham. Preciso mesmo desta última. Não só temos a Victoria de tiara e a tomar um banho de espuma na capa, como é ela a editora convidada desta edição de Setembro, a maior e mais importante do ano. Mal posso esperar! Ainda bem que as revistas americanas são populares aqui por Dublin.Populares e baratinhas.

Vacation Countdown - 11 Days To Be Home

Forever 21 Plus size

I believe this is a controversial shirt and at least half of you won't like it, but I kinda love it. It reminds of the 90's, when silk shirts with bold patterns were the epitome of chic.

It also helps that it comes in my size and able to accommodate my boobs and my arms, which is a miracle in the shirt world. I'd really love to have something like this!

So did you like it or is it too 90's granny for you?

Acho que esta peça vai ser controversa e pelo menos metade de vocês não vai gostar dela, mas eu adoro-a. Lembra-me os anos 90, quando o cúmulo do chic eram estas camisas de seda com padrões gigantes e ousados.

Também ajuda haver o meu tamanho e o facto de acomodar os meus braços e mamas, o que é um milagre no mundo das camisas. Adorava ter uma assim.

Vacation Countdown - 12 Days To Be Home

So, 12 days to be home and 12 days to be at the beach. And that is quite worrying. Not that I'm worried about my shape. I know that ship has sailed a long time ago, but I'm worried about my swimwear. Although they still fit me, my bikinis from last year are quite small. Not that that is a problem. I like small. The thing is that I'm huge, so I might overshadow the bikini bottoms to the point that they actually become invisible. Hence the search for high-waist and 50's inspired bikini bottoms. I headed to asos.com because they usually have things for big girls and I found these poppy print ones that I loved. They're retro and big, but not big enough. They only go up to a UK size 18 (Eur 46) and I fluctuate between a UK size 18(Eur46) and a UK size 20 (Eur 48) and I don't own a measuring tape to be quite sure of my measurements so I gave up on the idea. I am kinda mad that asos.com doesn't cater to bigger women when it comes to swimwear. I think they could only profit from it. But I don't wanna bring that up again. Still I think they're so gorgeous,so I had to share them with you.

Now, the problem remains. Where the hell am I finding beautiful  and inexpensive bikinis for fatties like me?

(And no I don't believe in swimsuits or tankinis. I like to be as naked as possible, which sometimes even means bringing the girls out. But again I went to the beach naked until I was like 6, so...)

Faltam 12 dias para estar em Portugal e 12 dias para estar pronta para a praia. E isto preocupa-me. Não por não estar em forma. Já me conformei com o facto de isso nunca acontecer. No entanto, estou preocupada com o que usar para a praia. É que, apesar de ainda me servirem, os meus bikinis do ano passado são pequenitos. Não que isso seja um problema. O problema é que eu estou gigante, o que pode levar a fazer desaparecer a parte de baixo no meio de tanta carne. Daí a busca por uma parte de baixo com cintura alta, inspirada nos anos 50. Assim, fui ao asos.com, porque eles costumam ter coisas para meninas grandes e encontrei esta com padrão floral que adorei. É retro e grandinha como queria, mas não grande o suficiente. O tamanho maior é um 46 e eu flutuo entre o 46 e 48, e como não tenho fita métrica para me medir acabei por desistir da ideia.

Estou um bocadinho chateada por não terem bikinis de tamanhos maiores de bikinis, já que têm roupa plus-size. Acho que só os podia beneficiar a eles. Mas pronto não vou entrar de novo nesta conversa. De qualquer modo, são tão giras que resolvi partilhá-las convosco.

Mas o problema persiste. Onde é que vou encontrar bikinis baratinhos e giros para gordas como eu?

(E não, eu não acredito em fatos-de-banho ou em tankinis. Gosto de estar o mais nua possível, o que às vezes significa um topless. Mas também eu fui nua para a praia até ter uns 6 anos, por isso...)

First of all sorry for not posting the countdown yesterday but I only got home after 11pm.

For yesterday's countdown I chose these fantasy nail polishes from Topshop. They are very Little Mermaid meets Tinkerbell, which I totally love for summer and their quality is amazing. They dry super fast without any lines or little bubbles and they last quite a long time in your nails and in the package itself (I know cause I have one in gold). The only downside is that they're around €8, which is kinda expensive for me.

What do you think? Do you like them? Not the most discreet and office appropriate but why not go totally Disney during your vacations? 

Antes de mais, as minhas desculpas por não ter feito o countdown ontem, mas só cheguei a casa depois das 11.

Para o countdown de ontem, escolhi estes vernizes da Topshop. São muito Pequena Sereia meets Sininho, coisa que muito aprecio no Verão e são de óptima qualidade. Secam super rápido, sem aqueles risquinhos e bolhinhas e duram imenso, tanto nas mãos, como na embalagem (sei, porque tenho um em dourado). O único ponto negativo é custarem cerca de €8, o que para mim já é caro.

E vocês, o que acham? Gostam? Não são os vernizes mais discretos, nem os mais apropriados para levar para o escritório, mas porque não viver este momento Disney durante as férias?

Vacation Countdown - 17 Days To Be Home

I had so many ideas for posts for today, but I'm feeling so uninspired. 

It's a good thing I'm on my "Vacation Countdown", otherwise I know I would just take a break. And to stagnate is to die so I'm really glad I have something to keep the blog and myself alive.

Today's objects of desire are these tricolor shoes  that besides offering a lot of gorgeousness, also offer a stable heel. And I'm all about staying on my feet.
Tinha tantas ideas para postar hoje, mas estou a sentir-me muito pouco inspirada. Ainda bem que tenho a minha "Vacation Countdown", senão já sei que o blog ia sofrer um pequeno intervalo. E estagnar é morrer, por isso estou mesmo feliz por ter algo que mantém o blog e eu própria vivos.
Os objectos de desejo de hoje são estes sapatos tricolores da Zara Trf, que para além de oferecerem muito estilo, ofecerem ainda muita estabilidade, que é coisa que muito aprecio.

Vacation Countdown - 18 Days To Be Home

H&M +

As a plus-size girl, it is super hard to find jeans or trousers, which drives a lot of plus-size girls to wearing just skirts or dresses. Well, the thing is I don't wear skirts or dresses, so my clothing pool is even smaller. My salvation for many years has been H&M and more recently H&M+.

Today I was browsing through the site and found these forest green jeans. They seem to have the same shape as my favorite black jeans and they're in my favorite color, so it's a win win situation.

Excuse now while I run to the closest H&M.

Como rapariga plus size (ie, gorda mesmo) é super difícil encontrar calças, o que leva a muitas raparigas gordinhas a usar apenas saias e vestidos. Bom, o problema é que eu recuso-me a usar saias ou vestidos, por isso as minhas opções são mais limitadas. A minha salvação dos últimos anos tem sido a H&M e mais recentemente a H&M+. 

Hoje andava a passear-me pelo site e descobri estas calças em verde escuro. Parecem ser do mesmo modelo das minhas calças pretas preferidas e são na minha cor preferida, por isso parecem-me perfeitas.

Agora com licença que vou correr até à H&M mais próxima.
