Monthly Fix - Rachel Weisz for Harper's Bazaar

I have a problem. An obsession. An addiction. More than shoes or lipstick my true love are magazines. If I had my way I'd buy them all. However the times demand some frugality, so I'm going for just one magazine a month. And I have a prediction that March will be the month of Harper's Bazaar. Not only is the cover beautiful (Rachel+Gucci+red&pink. Hello!?), but this is also the magazine's biggest issue ever. And you know how crazy I am for a magazine milestone. Now let's pray Vogue has a very ugly cover.

Eu tenho um problema. Uma obsessão. Um vício. Mais do que sapatos ou batôns, o meu verdadeiro amor são as revistas. Se pudesse, comprava-as todas. No entanto, os tempos exigem alguma frugalidade, por isso cinjo-me a apenas uma por mês. E prevejo que este seja o mês da Harper's Bazaar. Não só tem uma capa linda (Rachel+Gucci+vermelho&rosa. Hello!?), como é a maior edição da revista. E quem me conhece sabe que eu dou um dedinho por estes marcos históricos das revistas. Agora é só rezar para que a Vogue tenha uma capa muito feia.

Addendum:  Turns out Vogue doesn't have a really ugly cover this month. Turns out that it has gorgeous Cara Delevigne on the cover... Her first Vogue cover... I guess I'll have to stretch my magazine budget this month.

Animals Are Everyone's Best Friends

And since we're talking about animals, I urge you to sign a petition against cruel cosmetics (brands that test on animals) in the EU here. We can no longer say that humans are above all animals and that they are here to serve all of our wicked desires.

E já que falamos de animais, peço-vos que assinem duas petições que protegem estes nossos amigos, a primeira contra a comercialização na UE de produtos testados em animais (assinem aqui) e outra que pretende alterar o estatuto dos animais na legislação portuguesa, para que estes possam ter uma maior protecção. Acho que está mesmo na altura dos humanos entenderem que não estão acima de qualquer outro animal e que não nos podemos servir deles desta forma.

The Girl Who Stole My Grandma's Sweater - Rachel Weisz Covers British Vogue

My birthday is in July, so July is my month and as far as I'm concerned it's best month in the world. However, Portuguese magazines have been treating July like the black sheep of the month family and giving him the covers all the other months reject. I guess it's because during Summer women buy every single magazine to take to the beach and nobody cares whether the magazine is any good or not. So, it really t pleases me to see that the month of July is being taken seriously by British Vogue. What a stunning cover! Not only do I worship Rachel Weisz, but I also love it cause it reminds me of home. The chair is exactly like the ones my grandparents have in the country, exactly like the ones I'd lay in under the fig tree in a warm summer day. And I'm pretty sure Rachel stole that sweater from my grandma's closet. I mean, it is the same blue sweater. 

Thanks, Vogue, for bringing a bit of home on my birthday!

Faço anos em Julho, por isso Julho é o meu mês e é também o melhor mês do mundo. No entanto, as revistas de moda portuguesas, têm tratado o mês de Julho como a ovelha negra da família dos meses e só lhe dá as capas rejeitadas pelos outros meses. Acho que é porque durante o Verão a mulherada compra tudo o que é revista para levar para a praia, independentemente do conteúdo.

Assim, é com grande alegria que vejo que a Vogue britânica leva o mês de Julho a sério. Que capa maravilhosa! Não só idolatro a Rachel Weisz, mas também adoro a capa, porque me lembra Portugal, a minha casa. A cadeira é igual às cadeiras que os meus avós têm no Ribatejo, igual ás cadeiras onde eu tantas vezes me sentei à sombra de uma figueira nos meses quentes de Verão. E estou certa de que a camisola foi roubada do armário da minha avó Fernanda. Quer dizer, é igualzinha.

Obrigada, Vogue por me teres trazido um bocadinho de Portugal nos meus anos!

All Things British - Kate Moss For British Vogue

When I realized that Kate Moss was on the cover of British Vogue I was like "Not again", but then I really looked at it and it's an absolutely amazing cover. The colors, the Versace dress, the earrings, that rope... But what's up with Kate's boobs? Were they there before? Or is this some kind of Versace/Photoshop voodoo thing?

What do you think about seeing Kate on British Vogue again? 

I kind get it! They're on Olympic Games /Queen's Diamond Jubilee fever, so how could they not put their biggest national treasure on the cover?

Quando vi que a Kate Moss é a capa da Vogue Britânica de Junho pensei logo "Outra vez não", mas depois de analisar a capa convenientemente vi que é absolutamente fantástica. As cores, o vestido Versace, aqueles brincos, a corda... Mas o que é que se passa com as mamas da Kate? Elas estavam lá antes ou isto é alguma espécie de voodoo Versaciano com uma ajuda do Photoshop?

E o que acham de ver a Kate outra vez na capa da Vogue Britânica?

Eu até os percebo! Eles estão a sofrer de Síndrome de Jogos Olímpicos/Jubileu da Rainha, por isso como não pôr o seu maior tesouro nacional na capa?

The Heartbreak Sweetheart

Yesterday I got my British Vogue and Elle and they have some great editorials. For now I'm leaving you with Lana Del Rey's photos from Vogue. She and Mario Testino, alongside the stylists did a great a job in this photo  shoot. It's so Lana and so now, you know? And I just love the cheekiness of the third photo. How cute is that? 

After seeing this photos I wished they had used one of them for the cover, instead of the one they actually used. I'd say the first one would make a killer cover, don't you think? It's time for British Vogue to think outside of the box.

I also had a great time reading her interview by Jess Cartner-Morley Lana was enigmatic and unsettling as always, but said a lot of meaningful things. When questioned about her style she said she was a "Gangster Nancy Sinatra", "Lolita got lost in the hood" and "I live in Monaco but don't fuck with me". All accurate I'd say. But the most important, I think, was this: "Oh I don't think I'll write another record. What would I say? I feel like everything I wanted to say, I've said already."

I guess when your heart is not broken anymore, there's no more need to fix it. I can relate. I haven't written much since I found true love. Sometimes I write about good feelings. But no poem can be as good as one that comes from a broken heart.

Ontem comprei a Vogue e Elle britânicas e elas vêm com uns editoriais lindos. Por agora, deixo-vos com as photos da Vogue com a Lana Del Rey. Ela e o Mario testino, assim com todos os estilistas, fizeram um óptimo trabalho. É tão Lana e tão agora, sabem? E adoro o ar malandro na terceira foto. Não está gira?

Depois de ver estas fotos, achei que deviam ter usado qualquer uma delas para a capa, em vez da que usaram. Eu diria que a primeria imagem tinha sido uma grande capa, não acham? Já era altura da Vogue britânica começar a arriscar mais.

Também adorei ler a entrevista feita por Jess Cartner-Morley. A Lana foi enigmática e inquietante como sempre, mas disse muitas coisas com sentido. Quando questionada sobre o seu estilo, Lana caracterizou-se como uma " Nancy Sinatra gangster", "Lolita perde-se no gueto" e "Eu vivo no Mónaco, mas não te metas comigo". Acho que foi bastante certeira. Mas a coisa  mais importante que disse, achei eu, foi esta: "Oh I don't think I'll write another record. What would I say? I feel like everything I wanted to say, I've said already." (Oh, acho que não vou escrever outro álbum. O que é que eu iria dizer? Sinto que já disse tudo o que tinha a dizer.").

Acho que quando o nosso coração já não está partido, já não há necessidade de o tentar colar. Consigo-me relacionar com esta ideia. Não tenho escrito muito desde que encontrei o verdadeiro amor. Às vezes escrevo sobre coisas boas, mas nenhum poema pode ser tão bom, quanto um que vem de um coração partido.

(I must say I am not a great fan of Alexa though. She's too disconnected for me.)

Louis Vuitton S/S 2012? Check.

Pastel colors? Check.

Oh So Pretty written on the cover? Check.

I believe we may have a case of editorial espionage on our hands.

Although a bit different, Elle Uk's March cover with Alexa Chung is looking very similar to British Vogue's cover with Lana Del Rey , don't you think? Is it all a coincidence or is one magazine copying the other like in the movie "13 going on 30"? If one of them is, that's a pretty dumb move in my book. In today's market is being different that makes you, not copying everyone else.

What do you guys think of this?

Penso que podemos estar perante um caso de espionagem editorial.

Apesar de um pouco diferente a capa da Elle UK de Março com a Alexa Chung está muito parecida com a Vogue Britânica do mesmo mês, não acham? Será coincidência ou estará uma revista a copiar a outra como no filme "De repente já nos 30"? Se uma delas está a copiar a outra, acho que está a ser um bocadinho burra. O mercado de hoje benificia a originalidade não cópias descaradas.

Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God! It's Lana Del Rey on the cover of British Vogue! I absolutely love Lana! Her music, her style, the way she seems like she's from another time...Even her super exotic name. To me, she is America, road trips and motels by the road. She's milkshakes in a dodgy diner. The 50's,  60's and 70's all wrapped into one. It's complicated to even express the images that pop in my head when I hear her music. She truly is a star, not just a singer. And I don't really care if she's got silicone lips and changed her name. It doesn't bother me at all that everything about her is a bit porn starish. Mostly I love her honesty about all the fake and the fact that she managed to make music that is so different from everything that we've heard before. Her music is all I've been listening to in the last couple of weeks an I am actually tempted to buy her CD, something that I haven't done in years. 

Sorry for all the rambling. I just wanted to say it really is a joy to see Lana wearing Louis Vuitton in such a pretty pink cover and that I'm super excited to buy this issue! 

Let me know if you're as looking forward to this issue as I am and also your thoughts on Lana.

Oh meu Deus, oh meu Deus, oh meu Deus! A Lana Del Rey está na capa da Vogue Britânica! Eu adoro a Lana! A música dela, o estilo, a forma como ela parece ser vinda de outro tempo...Até o seu nome exótico. Para mim, ela é a América, road trips e motéis à beira da estrada. Ela é batidos num diner manhoso. Os anos 50, 60 e 70 todos embrulhados num só. É complicado expressar as imagens que aparecem na minha cabeça quando oiço a música dela. Ela não é apenas uma cantora, é mesmo uma estrela. E não me importa muito que tenha mudado de nome e tenha silicone nos lábios. Nem me chateia que tudo nela seja um pouco estrela porno.  Acima de tudo, gosto da honestidade dela sobre toda a falsidade e o facto de ela ter feito música completamente diferente daquilo que já alguma vez ouvimos. Nas últimas semanas, só tenho ouvido a música dela e até estou tentada a comprar o CD dela, coisa que não faço há anos.

Bem, desculpem lá tanta conversa. Só queria mesmo dizer que gostei muito de ver a Lana em Louis Vuityon numa capa tão linda e cor-de-rosa e que estou desejosa para ter esta Vogue.

Contem-me o que acharam da capa e se estão tentados a comprá-la e também o que pensam da Lana.
