I think I've been repressing getting things for myself for so long, I've lost my ability to desire... Ok, I know I've desired the other 10 things on my list. But it's starting to get a pain to choose things to blog about. Luckily I remembered one thing I really want for my apartment (not really for me, but it still counts, doesn't it?). These amazing sticker swallows. I wanted ceramic ones (I mentioned it here), but in a rent apartment I thing these are a better option.

Acho que tenho reprimido tanto comprar coisas para mim, que já perdi a capacidade de desejar... Ok, sei que desejei as outras 10 coisas na minha lista, mas está a ficar difícil encontrar coisas para pôr aqui no blog. Felizmente, lembrei-me de uma coisa que queria muito cá para casa (não é bem para mim, mas conta, não conta?), estas andorinha autocolantes. Queria mesmo umas de cerâmica (já tinha mencionado aqui), mas como vivo num apartamento arrendado, estas são uma melhor opção.

One Swallow Doesn't Make A Summer, But It Makes Kick-Ass Decor

Ceramic Swallows via M&A

A few years ago I had a decor idea for my future living room . I wanted to fill it with a swallows, ceramic swallows that is. Just like you see in the picture. At the time I though it was a super original idea, but if someone else thought of it...

 Many years ago in Portugal it was very common to see ceramic swallows in peoples balconies and windows, as it was thought to bring peace and good luck to the family. My grandparent's old  house in rural Portugal still have them hanging and my mom decided to bring tradition to the suburbs by hanging two in our balcony. I think I love them so much because they remind me of my childhood and represent my country's lost traditions. Bu with the revival of all things kitsch I believe they're picking up again. You can buy them online at "A Vida Portuguesa" ( The Portuguese Life), a store that decided to revive our old but still beloved products, including the ceramic swallows, who first appeared by the hand of Portuguese 19th century artist Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro. You can also find them in street markets in rural areas.

Há uns anos atrás, tive uma ideia para decorar a minha futura sala. Queria enchê-la de andorinhas, andorinhas de cerâmica, claro. Tal e qual como se vê na foto. Na altura achei que era super original, mas se outra pessoa algures neste mundo, pensou o mesmo...

Há muitos anos atrás, era comum em Portugal ver-se andorinhas de cerâmica nas varandas e janelas das casas, pois era crença que trariam paz e sorte à família. A casa antiga dos meus avós na santa terrinha ainda as tem penduradas e a minha mãe decidiu trazer a tradição para os subúrbios ao pendurar duas andorinhas na varanda. Acho que gosto tanto delas porque me lembram a minha infância e representam uma tradição perdida do nosso país. Mas com o regresso de tudo o que é kitsch, acredito que haja um regresso das andorinhas. Podem comprá-las online no site d'A Vida Portuguesa (ou nas lojas de Lisboa e do Porto), uma loja, que como muitos devem saber, decidiu rescucitar produtos portugueses antigos, mas muito amados, onde se incluem as andorinhas de cerâmica, que surgiram pela mão do artista do séc.XIX, Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro.Também podem encontrar estas andorinhas em mercados de rua de zonas mais rurais.
