If a Man Brings You Vogue, Then He's a Keeper

What's the best souvenir for a fashion magazine addict like myself? Vogue, of course. And that's what my wonderful boyfriend got me from Japan. I was there for 6 days as well, but Vogue was nowhere to be seen. Ok, I saw it once, but thought I'd get another chance to get it. It was just too heavy to carry around all day. But I never saw one again. Luckily my boyfriend found it at the airport and made me a very happy girl. And today I'm sharing some of my favorite bits of the December issue with you.

Qual é o melhor souvenir que se pode dar a uma viciada em revistas de moda como eu? Uma Vogue, claro. E foi isso que o meu maravilhoso namorado me trouxe do Japão. Eu também estive lá 6 dias, mas não encontrei o raio da revista em lado nenhum. Mentira, eu até a vi UMA vez, mas pensei que ia ter mais oportunidades de a comprar. É que era demasiado pesada para andar com ela atrás o dia todo. Felizmente, o meu namorado encontrou-a e fez de mim uma mocinha muito feliz.

E hoje decidi mostrar-vos os meus bocadinhos preferidos da edição de Dezembro.

This is Akiko. Another souvenir from António. Isn't she cute? I named her after a Japanese colleague of mine from German classes. She was the first Japanese person I have ever known.

Esta é a Akiko. Outro souvenir do António. Não é amorosa? Dei-lhe o nome de uma antiga colega minha do curso de alemão. Foi a primeira japonesa que conheci.

 You know what my boyfriend said when he realized Vogue Japan was not in English? "What? This is in Japanese? Why did you want it then?"  

"For the pictures! Duhh!"

This is a souvenir from India (yeah, he's a jet-setter). It's an elephant inside an elephant. We still haven't decided whether this is a pregnant elephant or a zombie elephant. Any thoughts?

Este é um souvenir da India (yep, ele é um jet-setter) . É um elefante dentro de outro elefante. Ainda não decidimos se é uma elefanta grávida ou se é um elefante zombie.  Ideias?

This week I stopped by Eason and secretly photographed the price of Vogue Japan in Ireland...I could just say it, but I'm pretty sure you wouldn't believe it, so there, physical evidence. People actually pay this much for a magazine? I know it's Vogue Japan, but still. Mine was around €9...

Esta semana passei na Eason e tirei uma foto ao preço da Vogue Japão na Irlanda. Eu podia apenas ter dito, mas tenho a certeza que ninguém acreditava, por isso tomem lá provas. Mas há mesmo quem pague tanto por uma revista? Bem sei que é a Vogue Japão, mas ainda assim. A minha custou à volta de €9...

So did you like these pics? I know I'm the worse photographer that has ever lived. No sense of light or proportion, but I tried. I did.

Have you ever bought Vogue Japan? What do you think? Pretty bizarre things, right? The creepy dolls, the fried chicken head... But it's still a piece of art I think. And what a joy to see so may editorials. It's also great for me, cause it starts from right to left, like all Japanese books, and I always read my magazines from back to front. Anyone else like me?

Gostaram das fotos? Eu sei que sou a pior fotógrafa da história. Sem noção de luz ou proporção, mas eu tentei, a sério.

E já alguma vez compraram esta Vogue? O que acham? Tem coisas muito bizarras, não tem? Aquelas bonequinhas arrepiantes, a cabeça de coxinhas de frango...Mas é uma obra de arte. E que felicidade ver tantos editoriais. E para mim tem a vantagem de ser ao contrário como todas as publicações japonesas. É que eu começo sempre a ler as revistas do fim para o princípio. Mais alguém assim?

A Not So Fashionable Weekend In Oslo

Hey everyone! As some of you may know I spent the weekend in Oslo and decided to share a bit of my photographic report with you.

Although Oslo is a city made for families and not tourists, I loved every minute of our romantic getaway! The cold, the snow, all of that just made it even more magical. However, the cold is really brutal there so don't forget to pack a lot of warm clothes. I looked like the Michelin man with all my sweaters and leggings, but it was all worth it!:)

Olá a todos! Como alguns de vocês devem saber, fui a Oslo no fim-de-semana e decidi partilhar convosco um pouco da minha reportagem fotográfica.

Apesar de Oslo ser uma cidade feita para famílias e não para turistas, adorei todos os segundos da nossa escapadela romântica! O frio, a neve, tudo contribuiu para uma atmosfera mágica...No entanto, contem com  muito frio e muita roupa. Eu parecia um chouriço com tanta camisola e leggings e mais não sei quê, mas valeu tudo a pena!:)

Também vou partilhar convosco algumas dicas de turista.

 Oslo is a small city so there's no need to get a bus pass or anything like that. You can just walk everywhere. And if you walk you'll get a better sense of the city. Just get a map and a man to read it and you'll be fine.

Oslo é uma cidade pequena, por isso não há grande necessidade de uma passe de transportes públicos nem nada. Fica tudo a uma distância razoável. E se andarem, ficam a conhecer melhor a cidade. Basta arranjar um mapa e um homem para o ler e vai correr tudo bem.

 Oslo is one of the most expensive cities in the world, so either prepare to spend a lot of money or prepare your stomach for lots of fast-food. I spent around €3 on this Vanilla Coke. I've never tried. I didn't even know it existed, but it was worth the try.

Oslo é uma das cidades mais caras do mundo, por isso preparem-se para gastar muito dinheiro ou para comer muita fast-food. Para verem a diferença, paguei €3 por esta Coca-Cola de baunilha. Nunca tinha provado. Nem sabia que existia, mas compensou pela experiência.

 Being such an expensive city renting an apartment rather than a hotel can be beneficial. Not only is it cheaper than a hotel, but you can also cook, which may reduce your expenses a lot.

Sendo uma cidade tão cara, arrendar um apartamento pode ser mais benéfico que ficar num hotel. Não só é mais barato, como também podem cozinhar no apartamento, o que pode reduzir bastante as despesas.               

If you're worried about not knowing a single word in Norwegian, don't sweat it! Everyone speaks perfect English so you'll be fine. And if you have some knowledge of German you'll be even better, cause the two languages are very very similar. 

Se estão preocupados por não saber uma única palavra em norueguês, não se passem! Toda a gente fala Inglês, por isso vai tudo correr bem. E se souberem um bocadinho de alemão ainda melhor, porque as duas línguas são bastante parecidas.

 Shopping in Norway can be a different experience because, even though they have a lot of international brands such as H&M, Mango and Zara, most are local stores and boutiques. But once again be prepared to spend some money, cause Scandinavian cool doesn't come cheap.

Ir às compras na Noruega pode ser uma experiência diferente, porque, apesar de terem muitas das marcas internacionais como a H&M, Mango e Zara, a maioria das lojas e boutiques são de marcas locais. E mais uma vez, preparem-se para gastar mais um bocadinho, porque o cool escandinavo, não sai barato.

 For culture and art lovers, there are a lot of Museums, again a bit expensive, but worry not, The National Gallery is free on Sundays and you can check the work of Munch, Van Gogh , Picasso, Manet, El Greco, Johan Christian Dahl, Monet and many more... I loved seeing the Munch gallery and almost fainted when in sight of Van Gogh... It was an awesome experience.

Para os amantes da arte e da cultura, Oslo tem toda uma panóplia de museus. Mais uma vez, um bocadinho caros, mas nãos e aflijam, a Galeria Nacional tem entrada grátis aos Domingos e lá podem ver a obra de Munch, Van Gogh, Picasso, Manet, El Greco, Johan Christian Dahl, Monet e muitos mais. Eu adorei ver a ala dedicada a Munch e quase desmaiei quando vi o Van Gogh. Foi uma experiência fantástica.

One of the things I just loved were the colors of the buildings. Pretty pastels and bright yellows just fit the snowy background.

Uma das coisas que adorei foram as cores dos prédios. Os pastéis e amarelos fortes combinavam bastante bem com o cenário cheio de neve.

I also had a big surprise when I saw this statue of Kate Moss in a food hall in the city center (of all the places in the world...). I've seen it before in the February edition of Vogue Portugal but I had no idea it was in Oslo... I am not sure if this is the original, but I believe so. The statue that shows Moss in a complex yoga position is called the Sphinx and was made by British artist Marc Quinn in 2006.

Também tive uma enorme surpresa quando vi esta estátua da Kate Moss num food hall no centro da cidade (de todos os sítios do mundo...). Já a tinha visto na edição de Fevereiro da Vogue Portugal, mas não fazia ideia de que estava em Oslo... Não tenho a certeza de que seja o original, mas penso que sim. A estátua que representa Mossa numa complexa posição de yoga, chama-se Sphinx e foi criada pelo artista britânico Marc Quinn em 2006.

 Unfortunately I was unable to get some street style to show you. I wanted to stop people on the street and ask them to let me take their picture, but I believe that would have ruined the whole point of a romantic trip...

I will say, though, that the Norwegian girls had great winter style. They manage to be comfortable and look good with well tailored coat and lots of fur details (hopefully faux-fur details...). I only saw 3 women wearing heels and I thought they were the bravest women I've ever met. I was having trouble walking in my snow boots...

All in all Norwegian women and men are very minimalist when it comes to their looks, including minimalist hair and make-up. They are active people who keep it simple and I think they bring that mentality to all levels of their existence. 

Infelizmente, não tive possibilidade de vos trazer street style escandinavo para vos mostrar. Eu bem queria parar pessoas no meio da rua e pedir-lhes para me deixarem tirar uma foto, mas acho que isso ia arruinar todo o objectivo de uma viagem romântica...

No entanto, posso dizer que as norueguesas têm muito estilo. Conseguem estar comfortáveis e manter uma boa imagem com casacos bem estruturados e imensos detalhes de pêlo (pêlo falso esperemos...). Só vi 3 mulheres de saltos altos e achei que eram as mulheres mais corajosas do planeta. É que eu já achava difícil andar no gelo de botas da neve...

No fundo, os noruegueses são muito minimalistas nos seus looks, incluindo cabelos e maquilhagem minimalistas. São pessoas activas e simples, e acho que têm essa mentalidade em todos os aspectos da sua vida.

Fashion Crystal Ball

Hello patient blog readers! I'm sorry I haven't posted in so long, but I've been busy lately. Moving to a new apartment, going to San Francisco (because I have the best boyfriend in the world, who let's me tag along in his business trips)...You get it, right? I wanted to write about my experience in San Francisco, but I can't upload the photos from my phone... Whenever that is possible I'll write about it and give you some tips about what to see and where to shop and eat in San Francisco. I don't want to write a giant post today, but I must say I loved the States! Believe or not, it's just like the movies, which might explain why I was constantly expecting an asteroid to hit the earth or the zombie apocalypse to start. All in all it was great! They called me ma'am. I couldn't have asked for more!

As for today, I'll share with you a video from the 1930's showing futuristic fashion predictions for the 2000's. It was so fascinating how most of them were right on. I specially like the prediction that's made about men, who will be fitted with a phone and a radio...So true! It was also funny to me how they predicted the necessity of today's women to have clothes that can be adjusted to day and evening. I wonder if we will ever get to the point of fashion evolution that most tv shows and movies have predicted for the 2000's. Do you think we'r getting there?

Olá leitores pacientes! Desculpem não postar há tanto tempo, mas têm sido semanas muito preenchidas! Mudar de casa, viagem a São Francisco (isto porque tenho o melhor namorado do mundo que me deixa colar às viagens de trabalho)... Vocês percebem, não é? Queria contar-vos a minha experiência sobre a viagem, mas mais uma vez o meu telemóvel decidiu não colaborar e não consigo pôr fotos nenhumas. Quando conseguir, vou escrever sobre a viagem e dar-vos todas as dicas sobre os melhores sítios para visitar, onde comer e onde fazer as melhores compras, claro. Não quero que este seja um post gigante, mas tenho a dizer que adorei! Acreditem se quiserem, mas aquilo é mesmo como nos filmes, o que explica a minha expectativa de ter um asteróide a cair na terra ou de assistir ao começo do apocalipse zombie. Foi mesmo muito bom. Chamavam-me ma'am, o que é que eu posso pedir mais?

Assim, hoje vou partilhar convosco, um vídeo dos anos 30 que mostra as previsões de alguns designers quanto à moda dos anos 2000. Foi fascinante como acertaram em muitas das tendências dos nossos tempos. Gosto especialmente da previsão relativa à moda masculina, em que o homem vem vom telemóvel e rádio incorporado. Tão acertado! Também é engraçado como lá longe, já se adivinhava a necessidade da mulher moderna ter roupa que se adaptasse a eventos diurnos e nocturnos. Pergunto-me se algumas vez chegaremos ao ponto de evolução que tantos programas de TV e filmes previram para os anos 2000. Acham que estamos a caminhar para lá?
