Straight From The Shoulder

"If you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life!" This was a foreign concept to me until I decided to put fears aside and enroll in a fashion styling course last September. The course in the LA College of Creative Arts was created by Irish fashion personality Darren Kennedy and my wonderful tutors are freelance stylist and journalist/blogger Claire Weightman and fashion editor for Stellar and Kiss, Corina Gaffey. In the course we cover everything from editorial to personal styling, fashion PR to fashion photography and my personal favourite, fashion journalism. Last week we were given an assignment that I'd love to share with you. We were to look at the fashion shows for Spring 2014 and choose a trend we picked up from the shows. Then we had to write a small text about that trend and give some tips about how to wear it. It was easy enough to choose the trend and choose images, but it was painfully difficult to write the smallest text. It was kinda like giving birth, you know you have to do it, you know you'll be proud of what you get out of it, but it still hurts like hell. I was in labor for hours, which seems ridiculous by the size of the text, but once you learn from the pros what makes a successful fashion page, the pressure is on. This is what I came up with.

Straight From The Shoulder

Forget about breasts and stomachs. This spring is all about lifting the weight off your shoulders.

Taking up where Prada and Miu Miu left off last season, fashion houses like Chanel and Balmain are taking the focus up to our naked shoulders.

But how much you want to bare is completely up to you.

For rubbing shoulders with your girlfriends on a night out the daring Balmain look would be the way to go, but to get that tap in the back from your boss a faux off-the-shoulder, as seen in David Koma and J.Crew, would be ideal.

So whether you go conservative or care free, just grab your strapless bra and let your shoulders do the talking.

Hollywood's it girl and my own personal girl crush, Jennifer Lawrence, is also Dior's new sweetheart and, dare I say, muse. The actress, who has been wearing Dior on the red carpet more often than not, is now the star of the Miss Dior handbag Spring 2013 campaign. 

Pairing up with Jennifer seems to have been the right move by Dior, or any brand, really, since it's no accident she's the most sought after celebrity of the moment. She's talented, beautiful, funny and she's not afraid of speaking her mind. In all she's the imperfectly perfect modern woman. The woman most women wish they were.

BAFTAs 2013 - Best Dressed

I spent this weekend being one with nature in Northern Ireland (can hardly move now) and even though I really enjoyed it, I was in need of some glamour. So it was nice to come home and see all the photos from the BAFTAs and the Grammys. I think there were really great moments in both award ceremonies and as usual I couldn't wait to share them with you.

For now I'll leave you with the best dressed from the BAFTAs and later I'll share my Grammys favorites. Hope you enjoy it!

Passei o fim-de-semana em harmonia com a natureza na Irlanda do Norte (mal me consigo mexer) e, apesar de ter gostado muito, estava necessitada de algum glamour na minha vida. Por isso, foi bom chegar a casa e devorar as fotos todas dos BAFTAs e dos Grammys. Houve momentos muito bons em ambas as cerimónias e, como de costume, estava em pulgas para partilhá-los convosco.

Birthday Countdown - 18 days To 26

Dior

How amazing are these sunglasses? Pretty amazing, I'd say.

Even though I only own two pairs of sunglasses (by Gucci and by Ray-Ban) , I really love sunnies and wear them all the time. Summer, Spring, Fall, Winter. Whenever there's sunlight I must wear glasses, which is a good thing I guess, since it protects your eyes from the sun (But be aware that the cheap plastic ones you get for €5 will not protect your eyes and might even hurt your vision.).

One day I should tell you about my love affair with sunglasses, with childhood photos included of course.

Do you like these Dior sunglasses? Do you wear sunglasses a lot? Do you prefer quality or quantity?

Estes óculos da Dior são mesmo giros não são?

Apesar de só ter dois pares de óculos (uns Gucci outros Ray-Ban), adoro e uso-os a toda a hora. Seja Verão ou Inverno, se houver luz solar lá estou eu de óculos de sol. O que até é bom, porque protege os olhos dos raios solares (Cuidado com esses óculos de plástico baratuchos, que não só não protegem do sol, como ainda podem ser maus para a vista.).

Um dia tenho de vos contar a minha história de amor relativa aos óculos de sol. Com direito a fotos de infância e tudo, claro.

Raf Simons For Dior?

WWD announced today that Raf Simons will be the new creative director for Dior. Raf Simons is the current creative director for Jil Sander and has his own menswear collections Raf Simons and Raf by Raf Simons. If he is indeed to accept the job previously held by Galliano, he should be leaving Jil Sander. Although this has yet to be confirmed by Dior, the fashion world is accepting the word of WWD as true.

I must admit that I was expecting someone more out there, but I'm curious to see what the Belgian minimalist can bring to the table. I'm huge fan of his work for Jil Sander and I'm sure he's up for the challenge!

What do you think of Raf for Dior? Would you rather have someone else in the job? Who? I confess that when they "announced" it'd be Marc Jacobs, I thought it made sense, but I'm not too picky! As long as there's talent!

Raf Simons é o actual director criativo da Jil Sander e tem as suas próprias colecções de menswear Raf Simons e Raf by Raf Simons. Se se confirmar que Raf aceitou a posição previamente ocupada por Galliano, este deverá deixar a Jil Sander. Apesar desta notícia não ter sido ainda confirmada pela Dior, o mundo da moda tende a acreditar na palavra do WWD.

Tenho de admitir que esperava alguém mais excêntrico, mas estou curiosa para ver o que este minimalista belga tem para oferecer. Sou uma grande fã do trabalho dele para a Jil Sander e tenho a certeza que ele está pronto para o desafio.

E vocês, o que têm a dizer sobre a notícia? Preferiam outro designer? Quem seria o vosso designer de eleição para a Dior? Confesso que quando "anunciaram" que seria o Marc Jacobs, achei que a coisa combinava, mas não sou esquisita. Desde que haja talento!

Devo um pedido de desculpa aos leitores portugueses, por não ter escrito em português nos últimos posts, mas estou tão imersa na língua inglesa, que nem reparei... Apesar de muitos/quase todos saberem inglês, não é justo para quem não é tão fluente. As minhas desculpas!

After watching my mom put on silk scarf after silk scarf over the years, it's no wonder that I've got a bit of a silk scarf addiction myself. I haven't wore them in a long time, but I remember wearing them to school at the tender age of 12. Definitely, the most sophisticated girl in class! Now I feel it's time to go back to this classy accessory. I love these scarves I saw on The Outnet (I'm so glad I don't own a credit card, otherwise getting The Outnet newsletter every day would lead me to major debt!).

Depois de anos e anos a ver a minha mãe usar lenços de seda, é natural que eu própria tenha uma pequena paixão por eles.
